Sulphur Springs Valley Electric Cooperative (SSVEC) is a non-profit, member-owned distribution cooperative providing electricity to more than 51,000 services over some 4,100 miles of energized line. Located in southeastern Arizona, the cooperative’s service territory covers parts of Cochise, Graham, Pima and Santa Cruz Counties and includes the communities of Sierra Vista, Huachuca City, Patagonia, Elfrida, Benson, St. David, Bowie, San Simon, Willcox, Sonoita and Pearce-Sunsites.
SSVEC targets SCADA operations for improvement. Managing Hot Line Orders (HLO) and Clearances (CL) is important for ensuring safety and equipment health. Working with TC Technology, SSVEC created an automated procedure and tracking system that combines SCADA with MIMS.
SSVEC benefits from automation and mapping. When a HLO/CL is called-in, the SCADA operator actions a ticket. The tag made in SCADA is automatically shared and plotted on a map in MIMS, which is used throughout SSVEC by office and field personnel for viewing utility operations on map. The information in MIMS includes safety protocol to ensure important steps are followed. Now, workers effectively manage HLO/CL activity from creation to completion using a map.
