    Gainesville Regional Utilities (GRU) is a citizen-owned, multi-service utility in Gainesville, Fla., providing reliable electric, natural gas, water, wastewater and telecommunications services to more than 93,000 retail and wholesale customers in Gainesville and the surrounding community. As an engaged participant in an innovative community, GRU offers programs and services to help customers manage their utility use and save money.     In September 2017, Hurricane Irma impacted the Gainesville area with approximately 12 inches of rain and wind gusts of up to 70 mph. GRU crew members worked around the clock to restore all customers in Gainesville and surrounding area.

    GRU deployed MIMS Mobile configured for damage assessment, days before the storm. With minimal training, crews collected over 275 damage assessments. That information was shared with System Control to assist outage management efforts and with the Incident Command Center to inform the executive and management teams with near real-time updates.

    After the Hurricane Irma, GRU worked diligently to restore power to all effected customers with 86% of customers restored within 48 hours.
